The chorus of around 130 voices rehearses once a week from September to April in the Upper School Hall of Whitby High School, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire from 7:30 to 9:30 on Monday evenings. All are welcome to join. And there are no auditions! Members are expected to attend a minimum of 75% of rehearsals, and are encouraged to practise at home. Members can also support the society by selling concert tickets and attending social events. Music may be hired or purchased from the Librarian, normally at the first rehearsal of the term. The annual subscriptions for Chorus Membership are currently £47.00 (£42.00 for retired and unwaged membership) Any member under 23 years old in full time education receives the first year's membership free. Any member who pays income tax can help the society through the Gift Aid scheme.
Dress for concerts consists of dinner jackets with black bow tie (or red, on occasions) for gentlemen. Ladies wear ankle-length black skirts and long-sleeved white blouses. Members are responsible for providing their own concert wear. Ladies also wear a red rose which can be obtained from a member of the social committee.
Various social events are held throughout the year. As well as being enjoyable, they raise valuable funds for the society, and include quizzes and light-hearted musical evenings. We are a very friendly society, so please come along and join us! Contact details are given above.
